I have read books
before about drug abuse and violence within the home, even rapes
and suicides, but none really hit me like this one. Everything
that is in this book seem so real; the gang violence, little
kids being used as drug dealers, the characters, etc. It is all
SO real. I think it’s why this book hit so close to home. Maybe
it’s too real.

Should Homeboyz
be taught in high school? Without a doubt!! It actually gives
some insight into how kids are struggling and suffering in inner
cities. Homeboyz has the facts that affect millions of
people in our country and to not teach the material in this book
is only going to make the world a worst place for generations to
come!

Homeboyz can be
used as a gang prevention tactic. Some people think being in a
gang leads to a luxurious life not knowing the only real places
gangs lead to are jail and the grave. It opens peoples’ eyes to
see that taking part in activities such as joining a gang and
going to jail is not what Hollywood portrays, being in a gang is
real, and you really must face the consequences of your actions.
--Janae
Henderson, 15
The book is very
thrilling and hard to put down. After reading this book many
students will develop an interest in reading.
--
Taylor Samuels, 16
It is very inspiring.
The book gives an accurate description on a gangster life and
shows that the life is not glamorous at all. The story is
relevant to today’s youth. It is good for a kid to read
something they can relate to and it may motivate students to
read more.

Homeboyz appeals to most students and really encourages them
to open up a book.
